I can now announce that I’ve found a publisher for the eventual book of this journey. I contacted Arcadia Books because of their connection with Paddy — he came to their office some years ago to dictate his foreword to Miklós Bánffy’s Transylvanian Trilogy — and they loved the project and really got what I’m trying to do. I’ve been to see agents and publishers before and it’s always been a dispiriting experience (‘the market’s in a bad way at the moment, but do please keep in touch’), so seeing that people are actually excited by this as an idea — and even better, believe it can sell — has been pretty uplifting. I can’t say exactly when the book will come out, but most probably around six months after I finish walking.

Arcadia publishes world literature and travel, and is a winner of the Sunday Times Small Publisher of the Year and the Independent Publishers’ Guild Diversity Award. Most important of all, they make beautiful books. I know they will be a good home for my journey to return to.

That is superb news! But surely if you are following in Paddy’s footsteps you must wait at least forty years before publication?!

    What’s the rush?!

  2. […] only a walk and a book away from fulfilling my promise.  I wrote something about it on the blog.   Thanks all,   […]
